Hello, is this thing on? …

Greetings friends and welcome back to the blog, which (I’ve decided) serves its best purpose during Spring Training.

We write a lot of stories at MLB.com and Padres.com and with the Twitter doing so well — hopefully you’re following along at @FollowThePadres — there’s not a whole lot left to blog.

Anyway, Spring Training is a different beast, of course. So this will again be a spot to turn to for a few thoughts, observations, lineups for games and other newsy items. Things that I can provide you in the morning.

I report to Peoria on Saturday and pitchers and catchers will begin to show up on Sunday. I  promise to have an entry each day.

What do you want from this blog this spring?

In the meantime, I’ll leave you with this story that, as a reporter, I found very interesting. It deals with social media and the competitive nature of it all.

Corey, first off welcome back to another season to come in 2011. I for one have optimism with this team who is very veristile, still has a core in Bell, Adams, Gregerson, Venable, Hundley, Latos, Richard, Stauffer. I really like what Jed has done with the team in keeping it intact and then ensuring their is depth at almost every position. We have multiple guys in Cantu, Frahnsen, Patterson, Hawpe who can play multiple positions. Even Salazar could be considered depth even from AAA.

We will be scrappy, we will play hard as we did last year by stealing bases and getting executions come through. our game will be more defense & pitching. It is exciting! If we remain healthy, we will go far once again!

I would like to see some more of the reels of videos you provided last spring for us on your blog. It makes me feel as though I’m there.

-Thanks for the insight.
