Padres complete rotation, sign Jon Garland …

A
source confirmed Tuesday that the Padres had reached a deal with Garland. Terms
were not immediately known.

Garland
has a career record of 117-102 with a 4.42 ERA over a 10-year career in the
Major Leagues.

Garland
essentially completes a starting rotation that includes Chris Young, Mat Latos,
Kevin Correia and Clayton Richard.

The
Dodgers declined their $10 million mutual option for 2010 on Garland. He earned
$2.5 million from the Diamondbacks as a buyout as part of the terms of the
trade made Sept. 1 between the two teams.

Garland
has thrown at least 191 2/3 innings in every season since 2002.

I am curious to know what Garland is getting.

If he can stay healthy it’s a good signing.

I like this signing of Garland alot. He is a proven veteran who can pitch like a workhorse and stay in the game for 7 innings much like Correria. He has pitched in some meaningful games, he will keep the Padres in games giving the offense a chance to hopefully win the game for us. I don’t see this coming back to bite us. He only improves the rotation that much more, gives you a sense of comfort knowing a veteran is on the staff. I was thinking about the time when Randy Wolf signed here too, and how that was just an aweful expierence for him pitching-numbers wise at Petco, I hope it won’t be same for Garland because if it is, the Padres will end upn trading Garland come June-July. Another good thing is Hoyer and Garland agreed to a mutural option for 2010, which gives a sense of Security if the Padres like what they see in Jon.
