Henry Blanco headed to the DL …
San Diego catcher Henry Blanco is headed to the disabled list with a strained right hamstring.
Blanco suffered the injury in the second inning after getting the Padres first hit of the game. It appeared he pulled the hamstring bolting out of the box as he headed to first base. He limped back to the bag and was replaced by Eliezer Alfonzo after head trainer Todd Hutcheson and manager Bud Black attended to him.
Blanco said after the game that he heard a “pop.”
The Padres already catcher Nick Hundley on the disabled list with a small fracture near his left wrist. Hundley isn’t scheduled to come off the disabled list until after the All-Star break.
The Padres don’t have any other catchers on their 40-man roster so they’ll have to create a spot for that catcher by removing a player.
