Reineke outrighted to Triple-A Portland …

PEORIA, Ariz. – The Padres continued to whittle down the number of pitchers in camp on Thursday when they outrighted right-hander Chad Reineke to Triple-A Portland.

Reineke, who arrived in Peoria last month with what figured to be an outside chance of making the team, had a 10.80 ERA in two Cactus League appearances. He allowed two earned runs in 1 2/3 innings on four hits.

Reineke was originally scheduled to throw one inning in Thursday’s game in Maryvale against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Reineke, who was slowed this spring by back soreness, was obtained last July from the Houston Astros in the Randy Wolf trade. He was 2-1 with a 5.00 ERA in four games – three of which were starts.

Reineke might have gotten a better look last September but missed the final three weeks of the season after suffering from a stress reaction to the top of his shoulder blade.

Last week, the Padres optioned right-handed pitchers Ernesto Frieri and Wilton Lopez to Double-A San Antonio and assigned right-handed pitchers Mat Latos, Gabe DeHoyos, Will Inman, Oneli Perez and left-hander Nick Schmidt to their Minor League camp.

The Padres now have 39 players on their 40-man roster.

Cheers, Corey
