About that rotation …
San Diego general manager Kevin Towers said Saturday that the team isn’t actively talking to any free agent pitchers and that he doesn’t anticipate making a deal anytime soon to help shore up the back end of the starting rotation.
The Padres reportedly had interest in veteran Livan Hernandez, but he signed a Minor League deal with the New York Mets.
The Padres currently have three starters: Jake Peavy, Chris Young and Cha Seung Baek and will likely fill the two remaining spots internally from a group that includes Kevin Correia, Josh Geer, Wade LeBlanc, Chad Reineke, Mark Prior or possibly a sleeper from their farm system.
Still, Towers said he will keep an eye out for any pitchers around the league who might be good fits, guys who are out of options and could be looking for a job as spring progresses.
